I am a functional potter living near Saint Louis, Missouri.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
I am interested in creating functional “everyday” vessels. I am constantly searching for creative ways that combine this functionality with elegance and beauty. Most of my pieces are thrown and then altered right on the wheel so that I can capture and record the responsiveness and tactile nature of the clay.
I am a wood-firer at heart. Much of the glazing that I do is in an attempt to replicate a piece that has been fired in a wood kiln. Look for authentic wood fired pieces from time to time as I get access to wood kilns! I currently utilize different stoneware clays and I glaze using cone 6 glazes.
Creating and then passing on an object that is chosen over and over again for a daily meal, a morning routine or a nightly ritual, is truly an honor not shared by many artists. I strive to be the creator of the coffee mug that you reach for each morning…whether it is in the cupboard, or in the sink waiting to be washed. Each of my pieces are little works of art that you can touch and and interact with every day. I believe that out of all of the art that we surround ourselves with, only pottery is able to play this intimate role in our lives.
